I CICLO DE
TEATRO ITALIANO
CONTEMPORÁNEO
From August 28 to September 3 Montevideo hosts the I Ciclo de Teatro Italiano Contemporáneo, held by R-Evolution Project, INAE and Implosivo Artes Escénicas.
The cycle includes the presentation of shows, workshops and various activities through which it seeks to give light and voice to the independent Italian dramatic art, for its diversity and particular approach to the social reality of its country and the world and the richness of its imaginary, creating a link that brings Uruguayan and Italian artists closer.
From August 28th to September 1st, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Sala Polifuncional of INAE
Movement techniques and performance on the principles of Meyerhold’s biomechanics, a workshop held by Filippo Gessi
Biomechanics is a system of theatrical education in which the center of the work is the actor’s body. The physical preparation of the actor, whose theatrical principles also reside in the so-called biomechanical discipline, requires a great ductility of the body and a deep training, such as molding the actor’s body in sensitive matter for any theatrical genre he wishes to face.
September 1st and 2nd, 9 p.m. | Sala Hugo Balzo
Darwin inconsolable, by Lucía Calamaro
Production: Sardegna Teatro, CSS, Teatro Stabile di Innovazione del Friuli Venezia Giulia, Teatro di Roma
An elderly performance artist pretends to be dead in order to attract the attention of her three busy, distant and aggressive children. She fakes her death as some animals do: Maria Grazia practices thanatosis, a common behavior in some species in order to escape the attacks of their predators.
September 1st and 2nd, 5 p.m. | from INAE
Real Heroes, by Mauro Lamanna and Justiniano Aguilera
An itinerant performance that, through 360° audio and virtual reality technology, appeals to the physical experience of the audience, starting from some of the latest social episodes that have marked contemporary Italian and Chilean history. It tells the story of two parents who are forced to separate from their children out of love, duty and, above all, resistance.
September 3rd, 8:30 p.m. | Sala Hugo Balzo
Penélope, by Matteo Tarasco
Co-production: Scena Nuda – Festival de Mitos Contemporáneos y Academia de Bellas Artes de Reggio Calabria
This work illustrates the most atrocious consequences of love by reconstructing the Odyssey from the point of view of Penelope, who, now deceased, tells the story of Ulysses’ return as never before. It is the story of a love obsession, an obsession that turns into words, snatching each word from the chaos of inarticulate moans in which this woman in love drowns and struggles. An erotic and wild poem, exposing the pain of a broken but unlivable love with lucid madness. A longing cry of ecstasy that turns into agony.
